Baby teeth are the first set of 20 teeth, erupting from around 6 months of age. Beyond chewing and speech development, they hold space so permanent teeth erupt into the right positions.
They should not be neglected as 'temporary': a baby tooth lost early can cause crowding in permanent teeth. Decayed baby teeth are treated just like permanent ones.
