The success of implant treatment depends not only on the quality of the surgery but also on aftercare. Osseointegration — the implant fusing with the bone — takes about 2-3 months, and what you do in this period directly affects the result.
The first 24 hours: the critical window
Bite on the gauze for 30-45 minutes; avoid spitting and rinsing. Skip hot food and drinks on day one, and brush your teeth without touching the implant area. An intermittent cold compress on the cheek significantly reduces swelling.
Eating: what is on the menu?
Soft, lukewarm foods — soups, yogurt, purees — are ideal for the first days. Avoid very hard, grainy or sticky foods for a week. Smoking is the single biggest factor that delays healing and lowers implant success — pause for at least 2 weeks; quitting is ideal.
Oral care during healing
After 48 hours you can start gentle care with the mouthwash your dentist recommends. Stitches usually come out on days 7-10. Keep your follow-up appointments; once integration is complete, the permanent prosthesis stage begins.
Worsening pain, bleeding that will not stop, or fever are not normal — call your clinic without waiting.
