An impacted tooth cannot erupt through the gum into its normal position due to lack of space or misalignment. It is most common with wisdom teeth and canines.
Impacted teeth can cause pain, infection, pressure on neighboring teeth or cyst formation, and are removed surgically. Panoramic X-ray and, if needed, tomography clarify the position beforehand.
