Tartar is the yellow-brown deposit formed when uncleaned plaque hardens with minerals from saliva. It accumulates most behind the lower front teeth and along the gum line.
It cannot be brushed away and requires ultrasonic cleaning. Its rough surface accelerates new plaque buildup, making it a main trigger of gum disease.
